MAKONDE (EAST AFRICAN, 20TH CENTURY) CARVED WOOD SCULPTURE | Carved single-block hardwood sculpture in the Makonde style, executed in an openwork composition combining stylized human/animal forms and abstract shetani-like heads. The piece is finished to a dark brown/near-black patina with a polished sheen from handling. Visible carving details include rounded protruding eyes, elongated beak- or horn-like facial elements, incised linear decoration on one forearm, and tapered limbs.
